    The PLM category grew up around engineered products: parts, assemblies, bills of material, engineering change orders. That heritage shows immediately in a formulated business. A recipe isn't an assembly. Changing a raw material doesn't swap a component, it shifts a percentage that ripples into classification, labelling, cost and every dossier that referenced the old version.

    Platforms adapted from discrete manufacturing handle the document side well and the substance side badly. Platforms built for formulation handle the substance side well but usually stop at the lab door, leaving supply and commercial teams outside.     The change-propagation test

    In a system built for assemblies, the answer is that a component was swapped and a change order was raised. Both are correct behaviour for the software. Only one of them is useful to you.
