Worldover, AI operating system for substance-based businesses

    Category guide

    QMS and LIMS,who owns what.

Two categories, overlapping vendor lists, and a persistent argument about which one holds the result. In a formulated business the boundary sits in a particular place, and getting it wrong is expensive.

    Quick answer

A QMS owns the quality system: documents, deviations, CAPAs, change control, training, supplier approval and audits. A LIMS owns the laboratory: samples, tests, results and instrument workflow. In a substance business the hard boundary is the release decision, because a result only means something judged against a released specification, and a batch only means something once the results on it are resolved.

    Which should you buy first?

Buy against your most expensive failure. If audits and customer questionnaires consume weeks because evidence is scattered, the constraint is the quality system, so QMS first. If testing is slow, results live in spreadsheets and nobody can say whether a batch passed against the current specification, the constraint is the laboratory, so LIMS first.

In a cosmetics or chemicals business, the release decision usually decides it. If the lab produces results but the release question has to be answered by hand across two systems, the gap between them is where your risk sits, and either order works only if the boundary is closed.

Why is the QMS to LIMS boundary the expensive one?

Because both systems hold a version of the truth about whether something is fit. The specification lives in the QMS, the result lives in the LIMS, and whether the batch can be released is a judgement that needs both plus the batch record. If those sit in different systems, someone reconciles them by hand, every time.

That reconciliation cost is permanent rather than one-off, and it's the strongest argument for holding specification, result and batch on one record, which is what what is Worldover sets out.

What does good look like when they're connected?

A result arrives, is judged automatically against the released specification on the same record, and the batch knows immediately. A pass clears release steps. A fail raises a deviation that already names the batch, the specification and the open production affected, and the CAPA trails from the same record.

Nothing is re-keyed between laboratory and quality system, and the audit pack for any batch is one query rather than a day of copying. That's the test worth running in any demo of either category.
