    Pioneering biotech in beauty

Debut Biotech is a vertically integrated biotech company developing novel ingredients for the cosmetics industry, made through biology rather than petrochemistry. Headquartered in San Diego with teams across Los Angeles and New York, Debut partners with leading beauty brands to bring AI-powered biotech to market.

The business operates at two levels: as an ingredient manufacturer creating novel actives, and as a formulation provider developing customised finished formulas that help brands bring those actives to market.

Depth of data, and no structure to hold it

Every novel ingredient Debut develops carries a dense technical profile: composition, impurities, allergen status, physical and chemical properties, and regulatory classification across every jurisdiction its partners sell into. As an ingredient provider creating substances that have never existed before, Debut had no existing identity to draw on. Each ingredient had to be characterised, documented and made shareable from scratch.

That data lived in scattered places: lab notebooks, technical data sheets and individual scientists' files. The formulation lab added to the complexity. Prototypes built for brand partners needed to draw cleanly on the underlying ingredient library, layer in data at the formulation level, and stay connected to the raw materials they were built from. Without a single source of truth, every new partnership conversation meant reassembling the same technical information by hand.

Debut needed a proper system of record before the ingredient catalogue and the prototype pipeline outgrew what scattered files could hold.

PLM as the foundation, R&D on top

Debut deployed Worldover™ across its PLM and R&D modules. PLM became the structured system of record for every raw material in the catalogue, with one record per ingredient covering composition, impurities, allergen profile, physical and chemical properties, and regulatory positioning.

Willow, Worldover's AI colleague inside the live data, carries the complexity of representing novel biotech ingredients: alternate naming conventions and synonyms, regulatory classifications across the markets Debut's partners sell into, and the relationships between substances that newly discovered actives tend to surface.

Debut's formulation lab now works in the R&D module, configured to draw directly on the ingredient library held in PLM. A prototype formulation built around a Debut active connects back to the underlying raw material data rather than being recreated alongside it. When a brand partner asks for technical details on what's in their formula, the answer is one record, not a scramble across files.

Delivered by Customer Success and Regulatory, with engineering input on data structure

Worldover's Customer Success team led the composition and configuration, working closely with Debut's R&D and Operations leadership to shape how novel ingredients are represented in the platform. Regulatory contributed jurisdictional scoping for the markets Debut supplies into. Engineering supported the data model decisions specific to ingredient provider workflows, where the entity being modelled is the substance itself rather than a finished product.

"Including the novel raw materials Debut has created, we have coded well over 300 ingredients that can be used in creating formulas for our brand partners. All information pertaining to these raw materials and formulas is now directly housed in Worldover. This allows us to provide the critical information needed at a moment's notice to brands and regulatory authorities rather than having to piecemeal this information together each time."

Outcomes: a catalogue ready to scale

Debut now has a structured, queryable system of record covering 300+ ingredients, and the formulation lab builds prototype formulas on the same foundation. The immediate outcome is operational: technical data sits in one place, accessible to the people who need it, and shareable with brand partners on demand. Retrieval that once took hours now takes minutes.

The strategic outcome is harder to see, but more important. Debut's ingredient library can grow without the data infrastructure becoming the bottleneck. Each new biotech ingredient arrives into a system that already knows how to represent it, and each new brand partnership starts from a structured catalogue rather than a folder of PDFs.

"As an ingredient manufacturer and formula developer, effective document organisation and retrieval are critical. Worldover enables us to manage this efficiently while ensuring product compliance across multiple categories and jurisdictions. Centralising this information eliminates the need for multiple systems and significantly reduces time spent searching for data. By using this system of record for all ingredients and formulas, processes that once took hours can now be completed in minutes."
