Connecticut Sets 2026 Deadline for PFAS Restrictions in Cosmetics
From 1 July 2026, the US state of Connecticut will prohibit the manufacture, sale, or distribution of certain consumer products containing intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The new restriction explicitly includes cosmetic products within its scope.
This measure, enacted under Public Act No. 22-101, requires brands placing products on the Connecticut market to ensure their cosmetics are free from intentionally added PFAS. Companies may need to conduct supply chain declarations and PFAS screening to ensure compliance and maintain market access within the state. A notification and labelling requirement may apply if the use of PFAS is unavoidable for the product to function.
