UK Transition Period Ends for Benzophenone-3 Restriction

On 21 July 2026, the transition period for the United Kingdom's restriction on benzophenone-3 in cosmetic products concluded. The restriction originally took effect on 21 January 2026, with the subsequent six-month period allowing for the sell-through of non-compliant stock that was already on the market.

Benzophenone-3 is a UV filter commonly used in sunscreens and other personal care products. The end of the transition period closes the sell-through window, meaning all cosmetic products containing the substance and placed on the market in Great Britain must now fully comply with the regulation.

Brands and importers must ensure that any remaining non-compliant stock has been removed from sale and that all formulations moving forward adhere to the new concentration limits.

You may access the regulation details here.
